About the Event

September is National Suicide Prevention Month,
and we are observing it here at The Book Nook.
This month is a reminder to raise awareness, encourage compassionate conversations about mental health, and remind one another that help, hope, and support are available. So many people are facing battles we know nothing about, making it even more important to check in, listen, and remind those around us that they are not alone.
Follow us all this month as we talk about:
Week 1: Reach Out. This week, take a moment to check in on someone you love. Send the text. Make the call. Stop by. You don’t need the perfect words—just let them know you’re thinking about them. A simple “How are you?” can mean so much.
Week 2: Checking In. Don’t just ask, “How are you?”—ask again, listen closely, and give them space to be honest. Sometimes the people we love need to know it’s safe to say, “I’m not okay.” Be there to listen without judgment.
Week 3: Stay Connected. Life gets busy, but the people we love are worth making time for. Check in on the friend you haven’t heard from. Call your family. Send a message just because. Stay connected. Keep showing up. Let the people you love know they don’t have to face life alone.
Week 4: Keep Checking In. September may end, but checking in shouldn't. Make it a habit to reach out—not only when someone seems to be struggling, but simply because you care. Keep asking. Keep listening. Keep showing up. Your loved ones need to know they matter.
